The Bombay High Court heard on Monday the matter of changing the names of Aurangabad and Osmanabad cities in Maharashtra. During this, it was informed by the Central Government that now the names of both the cities have been changed. On this, the High Court has said that it will hear all the petitions on March 27. At the same time, the court has rejected the demand of allowing the petitioners to amend their petition. Because the new names have now been approved by the Central Government.

Let us inform that on February 15, the Central Government informed the High Court that it had already approved the renaming of Osmanabad to “Dharashiv”, while the process of renaming Aurangabad to “Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar” is still underway. However, on Monday, the Centre said that both the names have been approved. On this, the court has accepted the petition for hearing against the name change.

Advocate Pradnya Talekar, appearing for a group of petitioners, said that the government is already in the process of taking more steps to change the names of revenue boards, railway stations, municipal corporations etc. In this way illegality has been promoted. The petitioners have sought status quo or a stay on the process.
